  • Compost near the house

Does anyone have any ideas on how near to the house you can keep a compost bin? We have two closed bins in the garden (one a dalek, the other adapted from an old dustbin). Both of these are so slow to produce anything, I'd like to start a small box-type compost bin, I got good results from one of these before.

The only place I have for it though is pretty near the house - would this be a no-no ? I'd appreciate any ideas please.

Don't see any reason why not so long as it is well sealed.

Can't see any reason why not. Well made compost doesn't smell and doesn 't attract vermin.

My Dalek was 6 feet from kitchen door, it's now about 8.

Thanks a million for your replies - I'll get a new one started and give the full ones some time to compost.

          Thanks again.

Don't forget, the more you turn it the quicker it will decompose. I turn mine every few days.

Big Mallley - thanks for that reminder. It was something I knew but it gets forgotten.
