| I don't think it matters. You can shift the ants if you dig it over but they'll just take up residence a few metres away.

| I think it doesn't matter much. Insects are generally a good thing when it comes to compost I think, as it's they (along with bacteria etc) who process the rotting matter and turn it into compost.

| First thing I thought was that the compost was too dry. We too have started a heap - I know I am going to have trouble to get water concious dh to let us water it in summer! I can think of worse places the ants could be!!!! |
