What advice can people give me regarding soil mix for ceramic pots. We have spent the winter redesigning our back garden, putting in a new timber greenhouse and potting shed and developing four raised beds. We have several shrubs growing in plastic pots and we want to make features of these by transplanting into matching ceramic deeper pots. In the past we have used multi purpose compost but I am sure that I have read somewhere about mixing compost with something else to improve growing. Multi purpose dries out very quickly so I feel that I need to add something but don't know what.

Also we have a huge (and I mean huge) bay tree growing in a very large pot, I would like to trim this to a better shape and take cuttings, when is it best to do this?
