Notes and thoughts and sometimes photos of my attempt to tame my overgrown allotment; and hopefully one day grow fruit and vegetables on it.
A Right Tangled Plot.

I went to the allotment for the first time. There is a chance that it will be cleared for me and offered as a tidy plot. It is overgrown with brambles and grassy stuff and very uneven at the moment.
My impatience got the better of me today; I could not wait to see if they will clear it because lets be honest I've started to buy 'things' for it. Things like four raspberry canes that I saw on offer, which are now heeled into my flower border in the garden and starting to grow. Oh, and a rhubarb (crown?) which is also in the flower bed waiting. Now I remember there are also about eight packets of seeds in my sewing drawer, next to the reels of cotton and buttons. But this one is the hardest to hide or explain, I bought a Cherry tree when I went in Aldis for some Parmasan Cheese. I do hope the tree is as good as the cheese.
So today I put the key to the gate of the allotment in my pocket, and took the garden fork just to turn over a patch of earth to see what the soil is like. Opps, before I knew it, I've started to clear it myself.
The bad bit is the brambles have very deep roots and sometimes they snap when you dig out the main root. Will they regrow from a piece of root I wonder? The good bit is the soil is lovely and healthy looking under the uneven bumps of grassy looking stuff that is growing there. The worms are really fat which seems to be a good thing and the birds were singing, so I want to go back again soon.
