More rain and cold winds !
Posted 30-04-2008 at 10:25 PM by sewer rat
Well, after a scorcher on Sunday, it's back to reality and cold north easterlies and rain - still, at least it is replenishing my IBC tanks.
I'gve been quite busy since my last entry - have planted 50kg of Lady Christl, 50 kg of Charlotte, but am still waiting for my 50kg of Edzell Blues to arrive - hopefully this week ! I have also planted 25 kg of J/Artichokes, sowed 450m of Spring Onion White Lisbon and 450m Carrots Early Nantes. I have also divided my field into 5 distinct areas - for rotation purposes and this week have ridged them all bar one - for the peas, broad beans and courgettes. On the subject of courgettes, I have started laying out my old tyres as I intend to use these to provide some extra wind protectio for the young plants and make it easier to weed round the plants witout damaging them later on in the season. Trouple is I vcan only fit 20 in the back of my wee van, so and I need at least 250 - lots more trips or borrow a trailer - the leatter methinks !!
In the tunnel, I have started to plant out my French Beans, Lettuce and Cabbages.
I have also sown approx 1000 Winter cabbage (Tundra), 1000 Savoy Cabbage (Primavoy) 500 Red Kale (Redbor) 500 Green Kale (Winterbor) and my early season strawbs are flowering away quite merrily and a couple of my mid season plants are showing buds now too.
This weeks boxes wil contain some or all of the following - potatoes (Kerrs Pink) Carrots, Onions, calabrese, spring greens, leeks, swede, rhubarb, chives, parsley and winter lettuce..
Til next time
Later.................
