Where's the rain ?
Posted 08-05-2008 at 11:38 PM by sewer rat
A scorching week - my 4000 litres of saved rainwater has just about gone in a week !!. I planted out 400 odd Minicole cabbages on Monday and they're looking pretty thirsty now. However my peas are sprouting as are my broad beans, and radishes. My shallots and onions are making a move too. Finished planting out the last of my three varieties of spuds - due to problems and the lies that suppliers tell you, I gave up on the planned Edzell Blues and planted 50kg of Red Duke of York instead. The tunnel now has lettuce, early cabbage, French Beans and cucumbers growing away in it, and I have started planting out my courgettes in the old tyres as I get them on site.
However the main thrust of my work this week has been transplanting young plants into 12 cell packs for the local GC. I hope to have the rest of the tunnel floor cleared and planted up with growing crops by next Friday.
My boxes this week have some or all of the following - potatoes, carrots, onions, spring greens, leeks, rhubarb, Lettuce, salad pack, swede, parsley.
