Rain Forecast !!

Posted 22-04-2008 at 10:55 PM by sewer rat
They say it's gonna rain tomorrow
Well, since last I wrote, I have grubbed and rolled my plot, planted half my red onions, sown half a kilometre of Kelvedon Wonder peas, half a kilometre of Witkiem Manita Broad Beans, assembled my Ferguson potato planter (just need to knock up a couple of seats), sown some spinach (x 324) and some more sprouts.
My cukes and courgettes have started to germinate today. The tunnel is beginning to green up and look a bit healthier, the strawbs in baskets have all recovered from their delivery and are starting to put on new growth already, so all is well and good.
Oh yeah - I want rain as it has been very dry for a week now, with a cold north to easterly wind and the ground is very dry. Need a bit of the damp stuff to help - and also have used my first 1000 litre IBC tank in the tunnel, so I want it replenished - could be another month or two til I finally (16 months after applying) get coonected to a water main !! You wanna try growing 5 acres of veg with no mains water supply - not very easy !!
