Is this really Spring ?

Posted 04-04-2009 at 05:10 PM by sewer rat
It's been a while since I posted but now that things are beginning to move I thought I'd update my blog.
Since last blod update, I have taken over the running of two walled gardens - one in pristine condition and the other we will call a long term project. The addition of these two sites means that I will hopefully be able to not only increase the veg I grow but also that I will be able to grow slightly more tender crops.
Anyway, to date I have sown approx 1000 Cabbage Primo, 500 Cabbage...

Freakin windy !

Posted 12-11-2008 at 10:10 PM by sewer rat
I swear I thought my polytunnel was gonna vanish on Tuesday but it held, although the end frame that seemed to take the full force of the wind does seem to be leaning in a bit as opposed to being vertical.
I have started to clear my courgette patch up and the 250 tyres I used to grow them in are now forming a windbreak down one length of tunnel.

Getting a wee bit nippy up here now

Posted 16-10-2008 at 06:03 PM by sewer rat
It's been about a month since my last blog entry so here's a brief update on what's been happening.
The Major news is that I now have a mains water supply - it's taken 19 months but in the end I got fed up arguiong with Scottish Water and just connected it all up myself (I did this in a previous job so know what I'm doing)
Summer crops are dying a death just now - a few courgettes left, broad beans completely cleared today, enough cukes to take to the Farmers Market this Saturday then...

I'm back

Posted 17-09-2008 at 11:20 PM by sewer rat
Sorry it's been a while.
Well, today was a monumentous day !! After 19 months of waiting for permission to connect to the mains, I finally have water on tap - one outside the shed and one in the polytunnel - I still don't have full written permission but it gets to the point where you just think "sod it, do it and argue the toss later ". So I hired a mini digger and laid the pipes, connected everything up and Voila - water on tap
So now instead of anywhere between...
