Dry weekend at last

Posted 20-04-2008 at 07:47 PM by rustylady
Sunday 20th April - finally managed to get to the lottie, albeit with two grandchildren in tow. Sunny and warm this afternoon. Did some weeding and digging, Bored beans looking pathetic, but onions and garlic looking good (apart from the ones Caleb decided to dig up!!). Planted 5 x asparagus (home grown). Somehow managed to forget to take the bag of seed spuds for planting - too busy getting grandchildren organised. Need to spend more time over there, the weeds are getting on top of me.

At Last!! 13th April got to the lottie

Posted 13-04-2008 at 06:41 PM by rustylady
Spent yesterday in town with daughter and grandchildren. Forecast for today was carp, but it turned out a nice day. Actually got the lottie and planted out my shallots and onions that have been sitting in celltrays in the cold greenhouse. Loads of weeds growing, managed to get some of the big ones out, daughter helped a bit and grandson found loads of worms. Broad beans are carp, esp Sutton - won't bother overwintering again. They have flowers, but the plants are very windblown and spindly....

April Fool Weather

Posted 05-04-2008 at 03:25 PM by rustylady
Well, it's the fourth of April and just when I thought Spring was here it's gone back to Winter. Still the garden's looking good, the spring flowers have been great, daffs, snowdrops, crocuses and anemones. The tulips are now open or opening, depending on variety, and the magnolia is in flower. The forsythia and camellia were about a week earlier to bloom this year than last. Went to the lottie today, and it's not looking too good. Overwintering onions and garlic looking OK, had to weed the...

Easter Monday 2008

Posted 24-03-2008 at 11:58 AM by rustylady
Well, what an Easter weekend. No gardening, due to the weather. Woke up this morning to a good covering of snow. Still coming down, but doesn't seem to be getting any deeper. Appears to be thawing a bit.

Easter Sunday 2008

Posted 23-03-2008 at 02:20 PM by rustylady
Well it's a typical bank holiday weekend. Snowing. Looked after grandchildren yesterday, granddaughter stayed overnight last night. Woke up this morning to wet snow, being doing it since around 7.30 so no hope of gardening. Tomatoes (sub arctic plenty) have germinated - now living on front room windowsill. Loads of onions, shallots, etc. waiting to be planted out onto the lottie but the weather is not on my side!! Holding on to sow the rest of the tomatoes, chillies and squashes. Seed potatoes...
