Bank Holiday Weekend end of June 2008
Posted 25-05-2008 at 10:36 AM by rustylady
Went to the lottie yesterday (Saturday) with grandson. Did some more digging (ground previously covered with old carpet - it really works!! Grandson spent time looking for worms, dropping his sandwiches in the earth, and moaning - still he's only 3! Went back after Mum had collected him and planted Cobra climbing beans and sweetcorn (Conqueror & Tuxedo) - plants a bit on the small side, but we'll see. Today we have rain at last! Not much yet but steady. Potatoes are looking good, picked a few very small broad beans which aforementioned grandson tried to feed to the guineapigs! I had shelled them, put the beans in a bowl for tea, given him the pods to give to the guineagirls, and unbeknown to me he had decided to come back for the bowl of beans - managed to get most of them back. Crimson flowered broad beans are flowering well, summer PSB is growing well, no sign of bolting at the moment. Strawberries are late this year, I was picking ripe fruit this time last year but so far only flowers (lots) and small green fruit.

| | Are you more ahead than the rest of us rusty lady? We are only in the end of May - no wonder you think the strawbs are late! We will be lucky to get any this year - bad enough at the end of last year as Daniel the strawberry monster (now 2) found out where those lovely jucy berries were kept - trouble was he kept picking them even before they were ripe. He couldnt understand why they didnt taste the same! |
