Well not so much as a break more like a change of interests.

Plans for our retirement mean that the house we have in Scotland needs to be sold so that we can concentrate on looking for "the one".
So the last two weeks has seen me decorate the kitchen, dining room and stairs. I also had an afternoon laying a carpet in the lounge. We had friends from Lancashire visit for a day so had chance for a walk in the snow and lunch at a favourite hostelry so it was not all...

Well well well. My seeds are all sorted out in order of what month I have to plant them and yesterday on a trip to B&Q I ended up getting potato seeds for 4 different types of potato, a button mushroom kit (can't wait to see what this does) and a huge 75L bag of compost. I got the following potato seeds:

* Pentland Javelin Potatos
* Maris Peer Potatos
* Desiree Potatos
* Nicola Potatos

I've got 2 of them chitting in a big tray at the moment....

In the deep midwinter

Posted 29-12-2007 at 06:01 PM by rustylady
Well, its 29th December but it doesn't feel like it. Only a couple of frosts so far, and the first violet flower is open in the back garden. Also a few flowers on the forsythia behind the shed. Went to the lottment today, planted out overwintering spring onions that have been sitting in cells in the cold greenhouse - they have two choices!! Broad beans (Aquadulce), onions and garlic looking good. Leeks small but beautifully formed. Had a bonfire in my incinerator (worth its weight in gold)...

The 2007 Newbie Gardener's Review

Posted 27-12-2007 at 03:41 PM by blakemj
As with all newbies, lessons were learned this year about what to do.

The biggest error was being too liberal with the seeds, so had too much to thin out. This time we'll be that much more stingier!

Trying to maximise my small veg plot - in particular, sprouts where the ones at the back of the plot (against the fence) were hard to reach, and therefore hard to win the battle against the caterpillars.

One success story (and I'm sure its because they are...
