Cold here!

Posted 19-02-2008 at 11:52 PM by clare3411
Here I am buying enough seeds and artichokes, grape vines and plum trees/blueberries and asparagusto set up a small holding and the weather goes and turns!

Finally had a few days off work over half-term (I am a teacher in FE) get up and look out the window and the plants are sitting in my kitchen now. Frosts here in South Leicestershire are possibly the worst I have ever seen. Ground is frozen solid and my plans to get digging have got to remain on hold until the weekend. ...

Yet again Wilkos has come to the rescue, I'll admit its probably notthe best gardening place in the area, but its so handy when we're shopping at the weekend. My better (in every sense) half goes to do the domestic shopping and I have a wander round the gardening section. Hello

Hi

This is my first post on anything like this. I started my vege growing properly last year, I hounded my fiance for a greenhouse which I received 6 weeks after my birthday last year, I had already started off most seeds in my mini plastic greenhouse. I started rather late though, and by the time we'd finished the raised beds it was June, but still planted sweetcorn (which dies with the frost), purple sprouting broccoli(still eating now), spinach, cabbages(don't like them so not...

The mildest winter in ages... not!

Posted 16-02-2008 at 06:43 PM by Cutecumber
Forget all this rubbish about "the mildest February ever, ever, ever..." we've had some of the hardest frosts for years. Some of the garden soil has not thawed at all in the daylight hours.

And the same happened in December.

It has been sunny during the day, but the nights are really vicious.

And I still have to listen to people on the train who say "oooh! It's so warm... that's climate change".

If you were a seedling...
