Last few weeks have been busy - not had much time for allotment

3/4 of plot is now dug over - it's all looking good

Working out planting plans / beds etc was a pain - have settled for now on 6 main veggie beds - fruit is separate - have a rough "crop rotation" plan that should allow dual cropping (spring and autumn sowings)

Last week planted out roughly 20 each of spring cabbage, PSB and Kale - all were started in modules in the greenhouse at...

Tues 28th OCTOBER 2008 Note - it snowed !!

Posted 29-10-2008 at 12:34 PM by Marthaclematis
.... I just want to note that yesterday, for the first time since 1934 it snowed all over the UK. Not in my back yard but nearly everywhere else.

I haven't been in the garden since the weekend when we sorted froggy out in a new home. I won't get there this weekend either because I'm going up north for a birthday party. (can't go in the evenings now as its dark when I get home from work).
I think this Friday may see the table and umbrella being put away till spring. BUT......

Cold and wet Sunday - off to the Garden Centre...

Posted 26-10-2008 at 03:26 PM by Marthaclematis
... only because they have apple tasting today; NOT to buy anything (mmm..we'll see). We've been reading up on Frogs and got some advice from fellow Grapes and think that our girl should be quite happy where she is. At that end of the garden its damp and cool, there's a woodpile and a wall and lots of places to take cover, including the compost bin. I do hope she has a chance to meet other frogs though, what's the point of one? We want a population!
To catch up: Dh's mum is out of hospital...

We've got a pet frog !!

Posted 24-10-2008 at 04:30 PM by Marthaclematis
.... I was clearing the corner of the bed near the fence and came across what was I thought was a toad (coz it was big). Called dh and he picked it up and we put it into the rain water-filled tupperware at the back near the shed. Where I had found her (after some research on t'internet I think she's female coz she's big) was too dry, and a bit exposed too. We've put a piece of wood sticking out and some shelter over the top so hopefully she'll be safe and happy, safe from our two cats at least....
