I know I said I wouldn't...

... plant anything new, but we went to Homebase yesterday and I bought some spring bulbs - a mix of miniture daffodils and iris and such like for spring. They'll go into the spare pots I have (there's no room anywhere else).
It'll be nice though to herald the new gardening year. Last year all I had were a few daffs.
Dh has planted one of the ferns at the back; I have designated that part of the garden 'his' because thats where the log pile is and we've seen two stag beetles already...

We've got an arch...

Posted 27-07-2008 at 10:43 PM by Marthaclematis
I bought an arch months ago in Woolworths for £3.95, its light metal and its 8 foot high and its at the back of the garden with a rambling rose next to it which I hope to train up. Its a north facing wall though and it doesn't get much sun (its under the plum tree and against the wall). The rose (beginning with 'A') is supposed to be ok for north facing wall though. Dh and I did made it together on the lawn.
Everything is looking good and the honeysuckle is going a treat, no flowers though....

Posted 20-07-2008 at 06:43 PM by Marthaclematis
Well, I have to say that I'm very proud of my little garden this summer. Its been hard work, and still takes up a lot of time mowing and watering but other than that there's not much to do but sit back and enjoy. And we do - we're out there every evening, sipping fizz in between waterings (I use a two gallon can) and helping the honeysuckle (for that's what it is) to find its way sideways - it wants to go over the fence but I'm not having it. The rose too it almost 5ft against the trellis and...

....time is moving on

Posted 01-06-2008 at 11:10 PM by Marthaclematis
..(continued ...) No, next year I think I'll make things a little easier for myself. No potatoes, no growing from seed and nothing which needs staking. And the tubs which are now empty (where the bulbs were) will stay empty - I have far too many things in containers and it takes me nearly an hour each evening to water them all. And you can't not do it, their lives depend on you! Its a big responsibility this gardening lark.
