Virgina Creeper tucked in...

Posted 17-10-2008 at 06:46 PM by Marthaclematis
We went to the GC and althought they had told me via email that they had two VCs and were holding one for me they weren't.... no matter they did have three in stock and the guy was quite helpfull in a 'plants mean more to me than people' kind of way, not very forthcoming but told us which was the best for colour and that it was good to plant it now. So. Home we came and dig we did (well dh did), I said to him "that wasn't as hard as I thought it would be" (we have dry clay soil and we were planting near the fence), he replied "you don't know how strong I am". Fair enough!
I then tidied up, cut back the fucia and watered all the pots. Then, dh said "urg.. what are they?" AAaaarrrghh.... big green beetles, with wings, on the leaves of the lilac. I've never seen them before, six legs and cream underbelly. Dh got the camera and took a photo and then put the offending creatures into a plastic bag in the bin. We'll try and find out what they were, I hope not dangerous. I'm terrible for someone who likes to garden, I don't like any creepy crawlies. Never kill anything (and can't go near slugs or snails) but can't touch anything either, scream like a girl I do.
