I know I said I wouldn't...

... plant anything new, but we went to Homebase yesterday and I bought some spring bulbs - a mix of miniture daffodils and iris and such like for spring. They'll go into the spare pots I have (there's no room anywhere else).
It'll be nice though to herald the new gardening year. Last year all I had were a few daffs.
Dh has planted one of the ferns at the back; I have designated that part of the garden 'his' because thats where the log pile is and we've seen two stag beetles already - I know its a 'good thing' but I'm still squeemish about creepy crawlies (and these are big, and the males fly to find females). As its where the rambling rose is he's going to have to keep an eye on that too.
The honeysuckle and clematis have really taken off now and I'm having to wrap (the new honeysuckle shoots) sideways and lead the clematis to ever greater heights nearly every day. The weather has been wet for over a week and today its windy too, the grass is very vigorous and needs cutting regularly. If I was designing a garden from scratch I would keep lawn to a minimum and leave more room for plants. We don't sit on it anyway as we use the patio. I've heard 'proper' gardeners say that and now I know what they mean.
