Dig Dig Dig...

Posted 27-01-2008 at 02:10 PM by Marthaclematis
SUNDAY.
What I did yesterday: (having already swept patio and pruned everything the day before).

Dug over and weeded the front bed by hand. Topped the Pieris with ericacious compost. Potted new lavender. Potted nasturtium seeds (one in pot outdoors and one on windowsill) Repotted Cyclamen. Planted small heather in front bed. Repotted daisy plant (must find out its name).

Things to do:
Buy a hoe and continue to break up clayish bed. Dig out polywotsits (geraniums). Spread bark mulch to suppress weeds. Dig out Laurel - once I've decided what to put in its place.
Plant evergreen in bed.

I am still aching from yesterday but the weather is so spring-like and dry that I can't wait to get out there; and I can't do anything during the week as its still dark when I come home from work. Met up with Pete and Francesa last night at cinema and they said that when they first moved into their first house they didn't have a clue about gardening. They knew nothing. They would come home from the garden centre on the bus with plants that were far too big for their plot and had to be taken back. Now they are great gardeners, they have a gorgeous garden and Pete is the proud owner of a city and guilds certificate in horticulture (general gardening I think). He certainly knows his stuff - and seeing their garden is always an inspiration to me. Right. Off to buy a Hoe ho ho!!!
