It was put there because it's a warm room, and apparently it ferments best at temperatures between 21-28°C. The room is usually just over 22 degrees, so about perfect. It's also up on the top of a very stable dresser, well out of reach of curious toddler fingers. This alone probably makes the location a good choice.
