Lived in Australia most of my adult life in Sydney. There I trained in horticulture and ran a small Nursery business for 10 years. It was successful in some respects but not financially so eventually I took off for UK to be with family.
I took on a small allotment in Histon Cambridge in 2006 that was just grass and is now shaping up quite well.
I was blessed with the donation of a second hand 10 x 6 greenhouse in late 2006 from some friends and after some teething problems have learned how to use it.
whilst I have some training in horticulture there is no substitute for other people's advice and experience and I have much to learn.
This site is not only good for advice but humour and I enjoy it immensely. An excellent resource and I love having my two bob's worth so bear with me spouting off at times.

Struggling to keep up with everything during my knee problem of last few weeks but having had arthroscopy last week hoping to be more capable soon.
Plants powering away on all fronts since 10 days of sun and a few of rain. Glasshouse plants doing well too but many finding it too hot already so put outside to cope.
Quite a few self seeded plants going well too. A nice crop of coriander very aromatic and ready ahead of sown ones. Also potatoes and fennel / dill too and hoards of sunflowers.
Second Nemaslug dose applied in cool damp soil so hopefully going to control slugs. Noticeable that snails still a threat in places and maybe thriving in absence of slugs. Also noticing snails of variety not seen before; they have very noticeable spirals on shell as some are cream or white alternating with brown / black.
All tomatoes now potted on from soil blocks or 5cm pots into larger pots. Quite a range started Feb to April on the go of all varieties originally planned. Now have grow bag with two Gardeners Delight and 1 Red Cap.
Once the sun starts to warm everything outside I hope to get the Burkes Italian, Costoluto, and some Arctic plenty going outdoors. I have some cherry toms of Tumbling red to put in a large pot too.
Chilli Shake potted into 3" pots. Peppers and chilli from Feb to April now well progressed so wait warmer time to go outside or put in pots in GH / gro bags. Includes Summer salad peppers, Jalapeno, Inferno, but no germination of Apache that were so successful last year.
Now left with 4 Black Beauty Aubergine which I intend to grow in pots until quite large with 2 in GH and 2 outside.
Fennel and dill seedlings going well and waiting warmer weather to transplant outside.
Planted out spinach in hot weather but seems to have prompted bolting. Tried cutting flower stem out and await fate.
The sweet potato slips arrived (T65 and Beau Regard) and I got them in water where they produced roots in only 2 days. Placed in soil of 5 inch pots with a plastic bag over in GH. Loss of one already which looked snapped and then rotted. Very cool at nights currently which may be unhelpful as they do seem to require warmth.
Apart from watering and a little weeding is all I have been able to do otherwise most visits to allotment.
