They say it's gonna rain tomorrow
Well, since last I wrote, I have grubbed and rolled my plot, planted half my red onions, sown half a kilometre of Kelvedon Wonder peas, half a kilometre of Witkiem Manita Broad Beans, assembled my Ferguson potato planter (just need to knock up a couple of seats), sown some spinach (x 324) and some more sprouts.
My cukes and courgettes have started to germinate today. The tunnel is beginning to green up and look a bit healthier, the strawbs in baskets...

A really beautiful day. Transplanted lots and spent most of the day in the garden. In the afternoon watched Enchantment with Sophia - and then it absolutely CHUCKED it down with rain. Garden flooded, septic tank nearly overflowing, the lot...

New Strawberry Bed from scratch

Posted 22-04-2008 at 10:07 PM by Fifer
Although I have been gardening for many years, I have not grown soft fruit before and am now going to put in a new strawberry bed - about 8ft x 30ft. I have been advised to cover the ground with a membrane, cut crosses in it and then plant the strawberries through the membrane.
Obviously, this should reduce weeding, but is this a good system, what membrane works best and what is the best feeding to apply to the ground before planting.
Thanks
