Blueberries are best grown in pots and the soil needs to be less than pH5.5, they also like to be watered with soft water or rain water. I bought 2 bushes for the patio this year and they are doing really well no fruit has appeared yet but I am hopeful for next year....

My nextdoor neighbour has a blueberry bush and I was thinking of asking for a cutting. any advice on getting the cuttings to take would be most welcome

Well I'm (really, really) not much of an expert on this - but I somehow manage to bumble my way through each year with some crops to show for it... I would definitely get a cutting now (while the bush is, I imagine, in its prime). With bush cuttings you're supposed to choose the hardest wood you can. Get a cutting about a foot long and bury it quite deep (about half a foot?) with plenty of manure and it should be okay...! Fingers crossed!

Thank you all for this advice. I've always been meaning to grow blueberries in my patio. Where do you think is the best place to get them from or shall I use my local garden centre?

                      Dear blueberry lovers,

Just wanted to let you know that if you take advantage of our blueberry offer (a bush worth £17.98 free when you subscribe) you'll be getting a really robust plant in a 1.5 litre container which will give you a succulent crop as early as next year. Other offers are usually for smaller, young plants that can take up to four years to crop.

                      Best wishes,

                      Georgina Wroe

'Tis true (almost). I had to wait three years before mine produced any edibles... kind of expected it but it's probably worth paying a bit more (or getting a free one!) to start early cropping!

                          Desperate for blueberries.

I can hardly belive this coincidence.
I have just acquired an allotment, and decided to grow blueberries first and formost but am having difficulty sourcing them. Then I bought your magazine for the first time which led me to this site and I read about this offer.
Please is this offer still available?

The newest issue we all have as of this date; is October 2005. the Offer that Georgina Wroe told us all about is yet to apear. I would hazard a guess from re-reading Georgina Wroe's original post,(date 15-09-2005 ) is that the bushes will be offered in the November 2005 issue. (out in shops about second week in October) at least that is when I expect to buy mine. Hope this helps?

                              telly berry

                              Hi,

I was watching the gardening slot on ideal world shopping channel hoping looking for ideas for my balcony, when they started to advertise blueberry bushes!

They are not available on the shopping channel at the moment but I believe they will be selling them again next spring, if you can wait that long!

I was looking for some fruit suitable to grow in containers and thought that this would be ideal. the price was about £9.99 for three bushes, and about 2 or 3 pounds extra for p&p.

I had some problems with the delivery company as i was not at home during the delivery hours, but when i eventually received the plants, they were in good condition and had been watered and packaged well.

I actually received 3 varieties, an early (early blue i think was it's name) middle and late fruiting variety (i cannot remember the names of these two).

They have been growing on my balcony since march/april this year, and two of the three plants have produced fruit this august/sept. Not a lot of fruit mind, but i hope to get more next year when the plants are better established.

If you would like to buy them cheaply then i would recommend buying them from any tv shopping channel, as they are cheap and so far have done well.

I do not know if they deliver to the channel islands i'm afraid, looking at their website it would be best to ring and ask, as there is not that much information about the deliveries given.

Suttons also sell them at £12.95 each on their website - I'd like to know how they get the bush in the photo to have such a large crop, if anyone knows what the average crop would be from a single bush please let me know, so that i know what to expect from my bushes next year!!!
