Default Allotments in South Norwood London SE25 (wanted)

Whilst looking on Multimap I discovered a site to the rear of Love Lane, SE25, right between the Harrington Road Tram Stop and the back of Beckenham Cemetary, but both Croydon and Bromley Council do not seem to know who it belongs to, or if it is still a working site? Does anyone know anything about it?

Needless to say I hope someone will give me good news as this site would of been within walking distance from home... I am looking for an Allotment in South Norwood, London SE25, preferably near to Portland Road and wondered if anyone knew of any other good local sites should this one not be open?

Appreciate all responses and advice as I have lots of seeds and suckers that will need planting!

there are a few around you.

The nearest is Enmore Road on the West side of Portland Road behind the Conserviate club. Then there is Heavers Meddow next to Selhurst Station.

Spa hill have a 2km limit to letting plots.
AWSLG (my Socitey) have no free plots and 30 on the list. But we are bringing two fields back in to production.
I do not know anything of Love lane they are not part of the Federation

Hi Nog and thank you for helping me out with the names of the local sites.

May I ask where your site is based? It is obviously very popular! When do you anticipate the other fields being open?

It is a shame about the Love Lane Allotments, I shall do some investigating to see what became of the allotments there... maybe they could be rescued and brought back into use?

If anyone does have any information on them please pass it on.

Thanks

We are at Glenthorne Avenue by Woodside.

Probally not till after the summer we have cleared on part but it needs plowing before we can do anything. The other needs water putting in.

we have 30 on the list at present.

I wouldn't mention the Conservitive club when you go to Enmore Allotments there is a bit of History between them.

Going back, I had a bit of history with the CC too. Something to do with turning their "field" into an outside drinking/play area. Didn't want that wrecking my peace.

After I'd posted my original, I started thinking .......... and the allotment access path must have been the one that ran down the other side of my drive. It never occurred to me where it might lead ! 17 years I lived there and now I wished I had caught the vegetable urge a lot earlier. Amazing what's on your doorstep without realising.

Good luck with your search pineandpear, sorry for hijacking your thread to do a bit of nostalgic wandering.

No problem and thanks for all the responses!

I have managed to acquire a provisional 10 rod plot in South Norwood and am viewing it on Sunday morning... very excited! I have been told it even has a green house...

I will keep you posted to my success or not, as the case may be!

The story I heard was that they wanted to build houses on "their field" and "their" allotmetns.

They got a buyer and planning permissions....but errr welll.

They didn't actually own the land the allotmetns owned it....Ha ha ha ha ha...

Get There Early And Take It, Even If You Think It Is A Tall Order, Dont Expect To Plant This Year If There Is A Lot Of Clearing To Do, Just Enjoy It

I am the proud owner of a rather tumbledown overgrown 10 rod plot at Selhurst and South Norwood Allotments, after visiting this morning and signing on the dotted line!

The previous owner passed away in October and it has not been tended to since then... Although it does have a small shed and greenhouse, a couple of water butts, about three compost heaps, some cane and metal climbing vines, and lots of overgrown stuff! I can identify peas, gooseberries, rhubarb, some blackberry brambles?, roses and rosemary! Not sure how much of it we are going to keep at the moment, but have already found a couple of helpful fellow plot holders to help us clear it. Apparently we can pile up all the unwanted stuff and it will be burnt or put in a skip, which is a great help.

Wish me luck!
