Default Got-a-lottie! (and Bexley free plots heads-up)

I feel far too lucky right now - after reading of waiting lists, overgrouwn rubbish tips, and all the various flavours of woe people are having with finding and getting allotments, I'm feeling guilty that my quest has been, if anything, too easy.

I filled in the application form on the council site a short while ago - since joining this site. Got a letter back saying that one of the sites I'd asked about was full, the other was closed for maintenance. I phoned up the next day and asked about 2 others that were close to me - both had vacant plots. The woman sent me details, I went on googlemaps, decided which site I preferred and phoned up the rep. Visited it yesterday, saw the plot (newly-opened, not even marked out yet, just grass on it), had a natter about the place - today I went up the coucil with my rent and got my key. The plot I'd initially wanted went this morning, so I'm next door. I visited this evening and the people who got the next-door plot haven't marked theirs out yet - hoping they get on that quickly - I'd much rather they do it than I have to.

There do seem to be other sites in Bexley with vacant plots - I don't know how they are at giving plots to people from outside the borough, but it might be worth a try if anyone vaguely local's stuck on one of the notorious London waiting lists?

Don't feel guilty, I'm really pleased top hear about people who are succesful in finding a plot, and I'm sure everyone else who is waiting or looking feels the same. It gives us hope that we will finally be lucky too. Happy planting.

Well done. Good luck with it all. Hope you can make a start soon.
You must be really excited, I found out I got one today, so I know how you feel.

Well done you.

I'm in Bromley and am rather envious, but I don't have a car so I think I'll have to wait until something closer appears!
