Default Got 2 allotment plots today.

I’m sure one very happy girl, I just had conformation on two plots, I’m now the new owner of plot 40 & 41
My very own plots not having to share, But I do feel really bad at letting someone down on the offer of helping out on his plot due to him been too ill to do any heavy work, But with my shift work and own Garden and now 2 allotment plots what can I do.
I had to ring Mr J, who was happy for me but also sad cos I was letting him down, on his offer of sharing his allotment and helping him out. Hooooo I do feel really bad.
These are some photos I took today when I finished work of my 2 new plots, look so bad state and run down, my friends think I’ve lost the plot for taking these plots on.
I can see loads of hard heavy graft and a vision of what it will be like you just have to look beyond.

Wow - they look good to me! Don't worry about letting your chum down - I'm sure he understands.

You've probably thought of these ideas already - but my first move would be to hire (or buy) a good brushcutter and a big roll of black plastic to keep the weeds down afterwards (until you're ready to dig that bit).

Can I disagree with you Paul just ever so slightly. Those there dark bobbly jobs GP, they look like Teasel plants if so have a look around and see if you can find any seedlings, if so then dig em up, and pot em up then do what Paul says, then when you have cleared a corner plant them out and they should atract loads of bees to the flowers and birds to the seed heads in winter ( they make nice decorations as well )

Apart from that well done you

Thank you Paul & Nick just keep giving me the good advice i sure do need it, and will follow all.
Cant wait to get some time off and start on one of the plots so happy, keep pinching myself to make sure I’m not just dreaming

I will need loads of good advice on clearing the plots and getting them up & running.
I think they are Teasel plants so yes will dig some seeds up and pot them on thank you

Good thinking NTG! I think it's either goldfinches or greenfinches that go mad for teasels - can never remember which but both are welcome visitors! Lots of other birds like them too.

Congratulations Gardenplot - looks like you will be kept busy for a bit there! Can I beg a couple of teasel seeds if you can find them? I have been looking for some wild plants for ages but no joy. Happy to send you an sae if you can help.

Hey hey!! That's brilliant!
Start scrounging big cardboard boxes, they're great to cover ground up too, especially covered with a big thick mulch of poo...

Congratulations! There's nothing quite like a new allotment - all that potential. The grass is long, but from what I can see there are no real nasties there. Just do a little at a time and cover the rest and you'll be winning in no time.

Hi Shirley, yes you can have as many seeds as I can find, I’m hoping to get down sometime this weekend if the rain holds off
Will let you know when I find some.
If anyone else would like some Teasel plant seeds just let me know.

Thankyou everyone for the tips & advice sure will use them - black plastic sheeting /cardboard boxes anything to cover the ground will start saving
