I pay £53 a year for a 10 rod plot, we have water, toilets and some of us have brick sheds to keep our tools in. We are being told by the council we are very cheap but reading this, I don't think we are. However I would be willing to pay more to keep the plot as I have put a lot of work into it and to be honest, what other hobby could anyone have that costs £1 a week and the benefits I get out of it, healthy organic food, exercise and if you work out the food you don't have to buy through growing your own, it easily pays for itself.

i would pay anything as i we have not got any in our village, they are all privatley owned

Just paid today for the year. £19. Plus £2 for insurance. The downside is you get a plot in the state the last person left it (which can mean a whole lot of work - I was left stinking water butts, a horrible builders sack full of heavy soil and weeds and an awful metal thing used badly as a compost heap...it is taking a long time to conquer the waste) but I think a lot of people on this site would accept these conditions just to get a plot at a fair price.

Dunno what allotments up here go for as there are only a very few. I don't know if you wanna try and convert what I pay for my rent to allotment size but I pay £250 per acre.

I haven't got an allotment yet, but according to the site's website, it's £28 for rent nad water for a full sized plot.

I'm just dying for an allotment - going to visit some this afternoon to see if any other sites have any vacancies - my hopes aren't very high, they're in so much demand at the moment!

We paid for our plots last week, 40 each for the 2 full ones and 20 for the half one we are going to give up (cant until the spuds are up!), so a total of 100 for the year!

We have a half plot, but i think it is a non-standard council size (it's a private allotment site). So we have 200 sq yds (42yard x 5) and we pay £20 per year plus £5 for water. Each plot length has its own self-filling water tank arrangement, so for £25 per year all told, it's a complete bargain we think.

Definitely sounds like a bargain. I'm paying just under £40 a year for a 5 and a half rod plot (£7.15 per rod). We do have breeze block built lockable sheds, toilets and running water and the entire site is fenced and secure so we're paying for the ameneties as well as the land rental. I feel very safe when I'm there on my own which is worth the money in itself.

in our area they are £42 a year, unless you are old, disabled, or long term unemployed ....... then they are £21 ...... i thought that was a bargain, considering how much veg costs nowadays

Well our council measures the plots in "perch" and charges £3.80 per perch. Mine is 5 perch (about 125 square metres) so will be £19 a year. We have water and the site seems very secure - no instances of vandalism reported for years, so I think its an absolute bargain. I'd happily pay double. I asked hubby how much he thought it would be and he reckoned about £200 per year!!!!! Now do I tell him the rents have suddenly gone up????

I PAY £53 A YEAR FOR MY 267sq m PLOT. WE HAVE TWO LOCKABLE SHEDS, A TOILET (ACTUALLY VERY CLEAN, EVEN HAS A HAND DRYER). THERE ARE WATER TROUGHS EVERY TWO PLOTS, A HUGE COMPOST AREA, A CAR PARK AND A PROPER FENCE AND GATE WITH A VERY BIG PADLOCK. QUITE GOOD AS ALLOTMENTS GO I THINK, ALTHOUGH I WOULDN'T REALLY WANT TO SPEND ANY MORE ON RENT.
