  • Your allotment essentials and must haves!

In april I got my first allotment and I was wondering what people have on their allotment that they couldn't live without!

    It could be anything,
    A building/structure
    Certain tools
    Products
    Maybe even certain methods?

My long handled bulb planter is a godsend for planting spuds.

A fork. I could make do without everything else, but a decent fork is the most useful tool that I have.

A decent wheelbarrow and a good spade and fork. Everything else can come later in my opinion.

                  Greenhouse
                  Fork
Wheelbarrow - from transporting compost to moving a harvest, it's beyond essential
Journal - without it I'd lose track of what I'd planted and where

Water and an old bone handled knife
A weed is a plant that has mastered every survival skill except for learning how to grow in rows

I agree; a most undervalued tool. My essential is this flimsy it of sharpened metal, though:

As my plot is wholly within a farmer's grass field which is never mown, I wouldn't even be able to reach it without my scythe / slasher. Best £8 (p&p included) I've spent!

A shed, really missed it when I didn't have one. For me it's somewhere to keep your tools and nets etc, a good place to take five over a cup of tea plus not to mention a handy bolt hole from sudden downpours.
