last year I had white rot on all my overwintered onions so this year haven't grown them at all (8 yrs apparently, before I should try again!) Trouble is - I really miss them and am just wondering if the 8 yr rule is really necessary or have any of you got any ideas?

You haven't necessarily got the same problem on all your plot and planting them on another area might be ok!
Failing that you could grow them in containers?

I know what you mean though........I would be gutted if I couldn't grow the japs........in fact I've made a mental note to grow more of them this year!

That's encouraging - I thought that the WHOLE plot was a no-go area! Thanks two sheds - I did search for white rot but musta missed this.
