Try and get hold of some NEEM OIL from health / foodie type shop, mix with water and use as a spray. Otherwise try soapy water as a spray. This should work.

Or hope for a really decent spell of cold cold weather, which will kill them off.

Good advice Geordie, but where can you actually buy Neem oil. I think we've talked about the bananas before.

From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs.

Yes I would think so DDL. Usually as soon as you touch the plants you get clouds of little tiny white things that look like minibutterflies or moths. I've had terrible problems with them over the past 2 years. Hoping for a good hard frost to kill them off before next year, otherwise I will have to resort to spraying, and I really don't want to.

                  Um - dumb q alert!

What's the big problem with whitefly? Yes, I've had clouds of them on the swede/turnip/cauli/kale, but do they actually do any harm to the crop?

No idea about that Hazel, but not nice to breathe in when you dig over the earth they're in
