    Vegetables grown out of control

    Hi everyone,

    I've not long taken on an allotment and have started off growing things indoors in modules. I went on holiday and left my propagator with a friend who hasn't quite managed to keep up the watering resulting in some severely wilted broad beans. The plants don't look completely dead but most leaves have dried up and fallen off although the actual stems look healthy. Will they be ok to plant out or should I cut my losses and start again?

    On a separate note my broccoli has grown really big within their modules and flopped over. Is this to be expected? Will they regain their strength and be able to support themselves vertically?

    I would be tempted to plant them all out deep & give them a good soak.

      Depends on how bad they are, do you have a photograph?

      Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

      Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

        I would bin them and start again if it was me, its not too late. It may well be possible to revive them but success always depends on a good start. or sow another lot anyway but try to revive the poorly ones then decide which to use later. Seeds are cheap enough.

          I would pot them out tomorrow and sow some new seeds too. If the first lot keel over you've got back up and if they don't you can sell the spare, give away on freecycle or to neighbours etc.
          Remember it's just a bad day, not a bad life 😁

            Scrap em, you'll be wondering all through summer if they are going to give a decent crop.

              Plants really need leaves for photosynthesis. It's not too late,I'd start the beans again. I'm picturing you planting out lines of weak stems on your allotment,I think you'd feel happier if they looked how you want them to look. It would be a worry for you. Also weaker seedlings are more at risk to diseases/problems....

                Just for clarity, a photo is attached below to show the extent of the damage.

                I think my plan of action will be to plant them out and see how things go and plant another back-up set as an insurance policy. I've got the space to spare since I wont be able to completely fill my plot in the first year.

                      I'd give them a chance too. I hate throwing stuff away if I think it's got a chance! I thought they'd be worse, I would err on the Side of caution as others have suggested though, and sow some extras just in case these lot give up on you.
                      You may say I'm a dreamer... But I'm not the only one...
