Default Spade & Fork Repairs

Hi All
I am going to change my fork and spade handles for long ones as this will aid my old and creaking back. Any ideas as to where to get long handles and those wee little rivets that get bashed in afterwards to hold the handle in place?

It's a sad sign of the times but it may be cheaper to buy new rather than rebuild from parts ...?

No idea about the long handles, but I bought those metal rivets from my local farm supplies shop.
We'd borrowed a sledge hammer and as always happens when you borrow something......snapped the handle
They did sell other types of handles too, but I didn't check out what types.
Worth looking up in yellow pages as your first port of call!

Oh and hello Mondo...welcome to the Vine!!!!

Hi two sheds
Fortunately both spade and fork are stainless steel and in very good condition. I'm just modifying to help the old creaky back.

I know there are no farm suplie shops about your area but handles you want are heavy duty pitch fork stales or big bass broom stales if youcannot get the rivets six inch nails will do cut of at the right lengh i have used them myself jacob

Mondo - have you tried finding a wood turner and getting bespoke ash handles made?

You do have two woodturning clubs near you, Cheam Woodturners and East Surrey Woodturners and my OH is currently chairman of East Surrey.

Richard always makes my tool handles for me and I know that a straight tool handle is a fairly easy thing to make.

Try emailing TOH (my other half) he might be able to help.

Terry

Thanks Terry, what a great Idea.
I have sent an e-mail to Martin Dudley
Secretary The Cheam Woodturners Association.
