    Hello all,

We just got our new first ever allotment on Friday last week and have begun the task of clearing it up - at the moment there is nothing on site but weeds. I have taken most of my gardening tools down there but with no shed to put them in they're just laying about. So I want a shed.

I go on holiday at the end of the week and I'd like to order one beforehand so it can be delivered bank holiday monday - however the T&Cs say I need council permission, fine apart from the lady who processed our tenancy is now on leave herself. I sent an email to their generic allotments inbox yesterday in the hope that someone else might pick it up, but no reply as yet.

If you were in my position, would you go ahead and order a shed anyway? I don't want to break any rules and get kicked off, but then I can't see why they would say no to it - I only want a standard 6x4 one. Most other plot holders have even bigger sheds, one guy has two massive greenhouses.

It's irritating as I only need a one line response from them lol.

    Many thanks

How about getting a compost bin and storing them in there meanwhile?

Could you take them back home to keep them secure until you get a response?

Then again, lots of people on here have had problems with allotment sheds being broken into or vandalised - might be more cost-effective to leave them out in the open!

I stored mine in a compost Dalek until I managed to get a shed, with regards the shed go for a flat roof type and not the pitched roof type. I also bought cheap on my first allotment and better quality on my second

Are there any other allotmenteers who would let you borrow a little space for a short while?

The Dalek is also a good idea.

Surely the fact that other people have them sets a precedence so they can't say no to you.

Your council seem to have similar rules to ours. Our tennants are supposed to contact the council about any new structures and get permission. No one does, and up until now only one guy has been forced to take his shed down because it was casting a shadow over the 'old' secretaries plot.
Its a tough one, but for cripes sake have a word with the local conmmittee first as thay are the supposed enforcers!

Who's going to deliver a shed on a bank holiday in August?

I'd say wait a week or two and stay on the right side of those in 'authority'. It's too soon to blot your copybook.

                    Newbie here.

Brilliant! I've been pondering how to hide my tools on my allotment for ages. Considered digging a pit and covering it, etc, etc. But I love that idea. Can't see allotment burglars searching inside compost bins at all.
