  • New to allotments

Hi we got an allotment 4 weeks ago and have never stopped building since lol
We have made raised beds , a shed fenced the shed in with patio space and are now fencing the whole plot .

I can't work out how to add pictures but I wanted to ask you what you thought of my son growing wheat ? Wasn't sure if he should do it in a bed or in the ground ?

Any ideas ? We have had permission for him to do it

I grow wheat at school: we call it bread grass (because it is a grass). We also do "porridge grass" (oats). Just a couple dozen plants, in a raised bed, for interest. We don't get enough to grind it

Grew wheat & spelt on the empty allotment next to mine the crop was quite good but the harvesting and processing ( threshing and winnowing) are very labour intensive . Getting it ground into flour was impossible for the quantity I had and the price of a small electric mill was £70 which I could not justify. I grew 2 rows about 10 meters long and got about 35 kilos of wheat and spelt.the chickens loved it. Trying quinoa this year!
