    My new allotment

    So after being on the waiting list for about 3 years I got a call last summer offering me a plot close to where I live in Twickenham. I turned it down as I got cold feet and have regretted it since, at least until I got another call a few weeks for a plot closer to me which I jumped at.

    It's a half plot (now becoming the normal sized plot really around here) at Mill Road allotments in Twickenham; it's 15' x 76', shed and some tools included

    Thinking about having rows of three 11' x 3'6" beds down the length of the plot with 2' paths inbetween initally covered with straw until I'm happy with plot.

    Have started tidying and removing some of the couch, think I'm ready to complete the first bed this weekend but have borrowed a strimmer just to cut down some of the grass down first. Will post some updated pics after

            How exciting

            Always makes sense to have your plot as close to home as possible, as it's less of a chore calling in when you don't have much time. Looking forward to seeing your progress

                  Well done on the lottie. Make sure that if you do go with three long beds you don't have to stand on them to get from one side to the other.
                  When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it.
                  If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant.

                            Thanks for the warm welcome all!

                            Shame we don't really like rhubarb so that's going over to the in-law's - the plot already looks tidier but not sure if the (petrol) strimmer will be any good on wet grass so may have to put that on hold this weekend.

                            I've got a trial account on Growveg and have been using their garden planner software to get an initial idea on the layout - will post it up this evening.

                              Have you tried roasting the rhubarb with brown sugar and fresh orange juice? Much much nicer than stewing it.
