Default Jeyes Fluid?

I was browsing through some interesting looking posts on the site and I came across one - from Nick, I think - mentioning that you can't use Jeyes fluid any more. Wot, no Jeyes fluid? - I was brought up on it! Well, not literally....but my Mum used it for everything and my Dad sterilised plant beds with it from time to time. Are we allowed to use it in the garden at home? [I've only got a yard with pots, so I suppose it doesn't matter there.] But I thought about using it to sterilise the new allotment plot - in the end I didn't and all seems well so far - we are eating potatoes, spinach, carrots, lettuce, something my daughter planted called mitsuma[?], spring onions and peas at the moment - still seems like a miracle to me! But if I did have a problem, could I not use it? And why not? Thanks for any help on this. xx

Remember at school you were told we won the war. Well we didn't we thought the game was over, the crowd were on the field. They were down but not cowed.

Last year they decided that you had to have a special licence to produce chemicals and it cost a fortune so loads of the companys took the products off the market. Jeyes can now only be sold as a disinfectant not a weed killer, slug killer or the 100 of other jobs we use it for. Also they have change the product and its not the same stuff.

Armillartox is another that went the same way, so I posted what was their instructions purely for historical reasons on our lottie website - you can't use it for this anymore cos Brussels says so.

Hi

If the EU said something might cause illness if you used it on your veg, would realy just stick two fingers up.
There was something in the news the other day, saying creasote had health implications.

Mind they haven't bugged your bins, Barry!

Nick - I think my Jeyes Fluid is the old stuff - do you know how old it would have to be?

Doesn't matter what it says on the label you can use it for. If you can buy it use your own discretion. Mind you, the Jeyes Fluid you buy now is not the same as it used to be. I used to love the smell, and provided you stuck by the dilution rates it never did any harm that I could see. You are also not allowed to brew your own nicotine insecticide from fag butts now according to Eurocrats.

The government really wants to get their heads together a bit more, when it comes to poisons and the like. The good old jeyes never did anyone any harm, in the diluted quantities it was used in. They worry about what go's on the land and into our fruit and veg products, that we ourselves grow at home or at the allotment. We really arent going to poison ourselves. Just give us the facts and allow us to make the decision for ourselves.
That cannot be said about sweeteners in most of the shop bought food . Mainly Aspartame (deadly stuff). Maybe a little off topic, but very relevant i think. Check this site out http://www.dorway.com/badnews.html
thats my little rant. I feel so much better now. Keep using the Jeyes
Kind regards to all
Dave

Thanks Dave. I rather wish I'd used it before I started - on the mare's tails and the bindweed! It's been raining solidly all day here - next time I get down there I expect the weeds will be higher than thebeans. Ho hum.

I still use Armmilitox and Jeyes Fluid--but the Ammilitox is getting down a bit now--I don't suppose I will be able to buy it now.Has it gone off the market? It is excellent for controlling Vine Weevil--those horrible grubs in the soil!!!
