  • How far is your lottie?

    I just wondered how far everybody travelled to get to their allotment.
    Ours is 2 miles away and unless we wanted to walk are relient on the car to get us there.

    So how far is your lots?

    My allotment site is just few mins walk from the back of my home and on the way to my little one's nursery. so I pass by it 2 times a day, though I do not go in.

      It's about a mile away. Though the steep hill at the end makes it feel much further and I still can't get up it on my bike...

              About half a mile. If I don't plan to carry much (I have a trug thing for little bits) then I walk in my wellies, otherwise I nip in the car - I still walk 200 yards or so tho as the car park is the other corner of the football fields from the entrance.

                Mine is probably about a 5 minute walk. I haven't walked there yet hahah....there is a reason for that, honestly! I don't have a shed or any sort of shelter yet so we've got to take wellies/tools etc with us each time.

                Because everything is so new to me I wasn't going to get a shed until I felt certain I was going to stick at it, but I think I might just bite the bullet. It would make it so much more enjoyable to go down there if I had a nice shed to go in

                  2 miles in the car, 1.3 if we walk. Using the car at the moment as we have to take tools etc to the lottie as we are awaiting delivery of our shed. It is also just over 2 miles from work, so within in easy reach at lunchtime...

                  Planning to either walk or cycle most of the time once the shed is here!

                    Mine is about 2 1/2 miles away or about 5 mins away in the car. I am trying to start walking to the allotment but at the moment I am being a bit lazy and using the car.

                      2½ miles away which is:

                      - a nice half hour run in summer, assuming I just want to do some weeding;
                      - a 15min bike ride through the town to the other size, if it's dry under the wheels (brakes don't work on the Trusty 3 Gear Shopper in the wet). Much quicker cycling home - the allotment site is not called 'The Hill' for nothing;
                      - an 8-10min car journey round the town's ring road if I'm carrying stuff.

                      I try to only take the car once a week, or combine it with another journey as it seems an indulgence to get the car out just to spend the best part of a quid in petrol, especially if I'm just going to pick a few peas or something for tea. Makes those 'free' veg not so much so.

                        I don't have an allotment per se, I just fenced off part of the field beside my house and use that. The small gate into it is about 20 steps from the side door.

                          Just under 10 minute walk. I do occasionally take the car if I have heavy things to carry.

                            Mines about 2 mikes away, far enough to be properly away from everything but close enough to get there easily by car or bike (it's on a bus route and I could walk but never gone for those options). Think there was a thread on a similar subject a couple of years ago which somebody might be able to find but I couldn't.

                            Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

                            Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

                              I really like the idea of a push bike but....either me or someone else would end up dead as I can hardly see! There are no footpaths and the lanes are about 1 car wide - I suppose I could try a horse (not)
                              On a serious point - would you keep your lottie if you had to go further for it, say 5 or 10 miles?
