Default eeek - frost!

just seen the weather which says that there will be a frost tonight (in London / SE).

Do I need to go out and put fleece on everything? And do I lay it over the top and weigh it down with bricks?

I'm really worried now...

fantastic, isn't it!

I am looking outside now, wondering what to do first.

Prioritise - the most tender need your most attention...

I am going to stuff everything I possibly can in the greenhouse, and keep my fingers crossed for the rest.

Protect new, tender shoots in particular. Some things may be ok if they've been "hardened off" in the beautiful May weather

I've just looked at the BBC weather site, and London/SE doesn't seem to be going below 7 degrees - would think you would both be fine.

I'm on the edge of the built-up area of London - it says minimum 5 degrees for me, but I've heard a frost warning on TV, too.

I'll keep checking the forecast, I guess.

Our local radio station said ground frost for tonight, and we're sort of south west.

Fleece at the ready.

Where are you based Cutecumber?

I've checked Metcheck for my postcode and it says -1, but the bbc says 7.

I've just planted out some cucumbers and butternuts and tomatoes (a week ago). Do you think that's enough time to harden off? Oh! I just thought we'd be ok after all that hot weather. Wish I'd kept them all inside now.

Hi Cutecumber I'm in Croydon and www.weather.co.uk has the temp no lower that 6 deg for here - you should be ok in Orpington, unless you are out as far as Knockholt where I suppose it might dip below 4.

Good luck.

Terry

PS. Yes I do come from Bromley, and I used to live in Petts Wood before comming over to Coulsdon.

I'm NOT going to sleep well tonight - haven't covered anything - am just going to hope that we don't go too cold.

Well, it was cold - down to 5.5 degrees inside the greenhouse...

but no frost outdoors.

And it actually stopped raining, so I've put the Ark on hold for now.

Just looked on the BBC weather site and says some areas are going down into minus figures tonight. I'm thinking of even talking my mini greenhouse in!

Looks like it'll dip down to 3 degrees according to: http://http://uk.weather.com/weather...5&code=6lt&y=0

and 6 degrees according to:
http://http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/5day.shtml?id=2610

but I tend to find these guys are usually pretty good: http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/...t_weather.html

too short a period
it's windy - fleece will blow away
I'm lazy
fingers crossed...

It looks nice and sunny out at the moment but think when MrsD gets back we will have to go down the plot to cover what we can
all the toms we planted out yesterday
all our peas and beans are out all our sweetcorn is out what to we protect first

Oh no, my poor babies! I dont have a greenhouse and foolishly no fleece yet either - I was waiting until the autumn, thinking we were over the frost for the summer. They'll have to take their chances but I will be up at the crack of dawn to help warm them up again. Might bring the pots into the hall - but I dont want to disturb the toms in growbags?

If your stuff has only just gone out or is being hardened off now, I'd think of covering it. Mine's been out for a good couple of weeks and was hardened off for a forthinght before that so I'm leaving them to get on with it.
