Do you spend 'too long' at the plot

Love it, You are not alone Balders, I would spend much more time down there if it was not for the comments like, I don't know why you don't take your bed down there etc. In the early days Mrs C came and helped me with the first plot. Then she had a fall on the path getting to the plot and she has never been back.

The stupid thing is I got the first plot on the same allotment as my brother-in -law as I thought it might end up a social type meeting place as his wife is always with him and I thought they could natter whilst we got on. Saying that his wife does all the weeding on the his plot.

8 hours work 4 hours alotment 2 hours socialising 8 hours sleep think thats a good comprimise.

It was my allotment but himself has taken it on since he retired and I started the cake and preserves business.

I am quite happy for him to spend all day there, but he will insist oncoming back for his lunch. He wasn't keen on the flask and sarnies idea.

The last time but one, that I went down, we had a row and I punched a hole through his gardening hat.

so I raise the seedlings in our back garden while he goes and digs and cares for the growing plants. The only time I go there now is to do the clever stuff like pruning fruit bushes and sowing seeds direct.

He has trouble starting seeds, but I don't.

I love it

Me and my plot neighbour basically share our two plots, I use his shed, he uses my greenhouse and we share a large water tank.

Every week we have a bbq and the family comes down as well

For me its the social side as much as the growing that I enjoy

I am cultivating being around too much while the days are still short, so there is less moaning when I start to vanish for whole days.

Tried that but didn't work on Mrs C, now one daughter has moved out and the other has a hectic working and social life and we only see her once in a while there is less time when I can leave Mrs C in the care of others.

When she was babysitting her niece and another young chap a couple of mornings for a friend, I used to be able to squeeze in visits to the allotment. It's getting harder and harder to escape and get away these days.

Maybe the question should be...do you spend too long away from home/OH?

I try and get down there first thing in the morning before work for an hour most days through the week - that way I don't need to be there for hours on end at the weekend (even though i want to be!). Allotment time at the weekend is only really possible when the OH already has plans of her own...

I'm a back garden grower so I'm in and out of the garden most of the day, well when its not raining or too icy.

I did make the case for moving out into the county and getting a plot of land large enough for me to have a back garden allotment but it fell on deaf ears..

Oddly enough I was going to start this exact thread today.

My wife was really keen for me to get an allotment last year, and now she complains all the time about how often I go over there. Oddly enough, it's the frequency rather than how long I spend there.

It's only 2 mins walk away, so I like to pop round there most evenings just to nose around for 15 mins.

Then I go for a 2-3 hour visit once at the weekend.

She hets really bored of me talking about the allotment, but she particularly hates things like chilli plants and chitting potatoes hanging around the house.

I think she's happy for me to go over there, as long as it stays there...

I have the opposite problem - I like OH to be outside (in the vicinity at least) with me, you know for protection against wasps, spiders, flies, thorns, weeds and the like. I think he'd rather I just got on with it and left him in the house
