I've never used (or needed) a propagator. Today I sowed about a thousand seeds, in trays with cling film or a clear plastic back to keep in moisture until the seedlings emerge.

I guess you'd need a heated prop if you're going to grow more 'tropical' plants, early in the year, or of course if you're oop north.
