That sounds like a plan to me . If you do plant outside you might want to remove the piece of glass & replace with some Plastic (or wood ) with a good size hole in in it elongated to the edge (does that make sense to you? I'll attach a piccie of what I mean) then get some of the pipe insulatin that you can buy from a plumners merchant (it's foam with a cut on one side & fit this around the hole.

It will stop draughts & pests getting in & stop the vine chaffing on the glass.
