I was slightly distracted whilst reading this and mistook your seaweed tea as a drink rather than a plant drink. I thought why on earth would someone want to drink seaweed, especially if it smelt like death! I know what you mean about smelly stuff, I left some comfrey leaves in a uncovered bucket over winter in the veg patch. I haven't got advanced enough to get crops to go through the winter, so it got left there. I only remembered that it was there in the spring when I wondered what this really grim smell was. I added it to my compost bin and it took an age for the smell to fade!
