I agree - providing a habitat for toads and frogs is a great idea, and snails will find somewhere to hide whatever you do. Personally I find snails prefer smooth surfaces like the undersides of flowerpots, rather than rough bark.

I tend to mix large stones and logs in together, just to give them a bit of variety and hopefully therefore encourage a variety of wildlife.
