I don't have a newt since I moved and had to leave my pond behind, but I did have a Kermit (frog) visit me in the back porch the other day. It's become a sort of good luck thing, because for the last several years, wherever I've lived, I've had a frog visitor indoors at least once a year (it's a bit scary when it's in your bedroom, though (OK it was a basement bedroom, but I've still not managed to work out how he/she got in there). This year's visitor was in the back porch (landlord calls it a conservatory) and was very kindly replaced in the shady border.
