we have one that you put the bowl in the freezer (ours lives in there now!), it usually runs for about 30+ mins before it sets, one tip my mum gave me was to get all the ingredients cold before you start to make it, seems to work ok when i do this, but have tried just making it on the hoof, not very good results, so guess it's true that your mum is always right
