Results from the Great British Growing Awards 2016

In March we attended the 2016 Edible Garden Show at Stoneleigh Park, and were delighted to present the winners of the Grow Your Own Great British Growing Awards with their certificates.

Award winners

Thompson & Morgan won gold awards in four categories: best fruit and veg seed range; best online retailer; best plug plant range and most innovative gardening product for their TomTato plant.



The RHS Chelsea Flower Show won gold in the category of best gardening event, while RHS Hampton Court won silver and Harrogate Flower Show was awarded bronze. A representative from the RHS collected their awards.





Monty Don won gold for the best garden writer category, while Alan Titchmarsh won silver and Carol Klein was awarded bronze. Gardeners’ World achieved gold for most entertaining kitchen garden TV show, with Love Your Garden achieving silver and The Big Allotment Challenge winning bronze. The awards for Monty Don, Carol Klein and Gardeners’ World were picked up by a representative




As pictured, Wyevale achieved gold for the best one stop gardening shop category, with B&Q scoring silver and Wilkinsons achieving bronze.







Christine Walkden won gold for most trusted celebrity gardener, with silver awarded to Toby Buckland and bronze given to Anne Swithinbank.



The gold winner of the category most effective composting product went to J Arthur Bower’s Garotta Compost Maker, with Westland’s make Your Own Compost winning silver and Hotbin’s Compost Bin winning bronze, pictured here.




Premier Polytunnels, pictured, stormed to victory in the best greenhouse/polytunnel brand category, with First Tunnels winning silver and Northern Polytunnels achieving bronze.





The category of garden volunteer of the year was voted by Christine Walkden. The gold winner was Tony Farthing, silver was awarded to Brian Stock, and bronze was won by Giala.



Spear & Jackson, pictured, won gold for best garden tools range, with Wolf-Garten, also pictured, winning silver. Draper Tools achieved a bronze award.









Natural Seaweed Fertiliser from Maxicrop won in the category for best eco-friendly or organic veg growing product, with Enviromesh winning silver and Nemaslug by Nemasys winning bronze.


The category of best community garden was voted for by Chris Beardshaw. Gold was awarded to Springvale Community Garden, silver went to Golden Hill Community Garden, and bronze was achieved by People’s Community Garden.



Kew Gardens won gold as the most inspiring vegetable garden to visit, with the Lost Gardens of Heligan winning silver, and RHS Wisley winning bronze.



Blackmoor Nurseries, pictured, won as best nursery/retailer specialising in fruit, with Ken Muir winning silver and Ashridge Nurseries winning bronze.








In the category of best new kitchen garden book, D.K.‘s Grow All You Can Eat In Three Square Feet won gold, while James Wong (pictured) won silver for Grow For Flavour and Raymond Blanc won bronze for Kew on a Plate.







The winner of the best gardening organisation award was the RHS, with the National Trust achieving silver and Garden Organic, pictured, achieving bronze.







Suttons Seeds, pictured, won silver for best fruit and veg seed range and silver for best plug plant range.







Air-pot containers won silver in the most innovative gardening product category, with Vitopod’s heated propogator winning bronze. Air-pot is pictured, with Vitopod and Greenhouse Sensations pictured alongside each other underneath.










Dobies won bronze for best plug plant range. Rob Smith, pictured, was the representative for Dobies.







In addition, Mr Fothergill’s won bronze in the best fruit and veg seed range.
